Roses

Thinking about roses as a hobby is always a great start. Of the many colorful landscape features available in our area, roses may top the list for maintenance and attention. A commitment by the gardener to the proper care of rose bushes will result in terrific performance from the plants.

Hybrid Tea Roses are probably what first pops into most gardener’s minds. Hybridized over hundreds of years, these beautiful specimens offer up amazing colors, and beautiful fragrances. There are thousands of different varieties available. Check the list below to discover which ones we will have available starting about April 15th each year!

The family of roses includes what we call climbers, although they really don’t climb at all. They simply are very large-growing varieties that can be used effectively along fences, walls and buildings. They require attaching to the support source with ties of some type.

In recent years, we have seen renewed interest in shrub roses, which offer a more natural flower habit, and are considerably more tolerant of disease and neglect than Tea Roses. Newest introductions in this category include the Knockout family of roses, which have proven to be almost exclusive of traditional problems associated with other roses. Blooming freely throughout the summer, these are a valuable addition to the landscape that will behave well with minimal care.

Carpet roses have gained popularity as a low growing groundcover in sunny locations. Deriving from the shrub rose family, they are also quite easy to maintain.
